HC Deb 17 March 1971 vol 813 cc319-20W
44. Mr. James Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what proposals he has for increasing charges to students in further education establishments, and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Edward Taylor

It is for the education authorities to determine the fees to be charged. I am sending the hon. Members a copy of the report of a working party set up by the local authority associations in 1969 at the invitation of the then Secretary of State.

This report, which proposed a uniform fees structure for vocational courses of further education, was commended to authorities by the associations. Some authorities are implementing it this ses- sion, and others intend to do so in 1971–72.
