HC Deb 12 March 1971 vol 813 cc183-4W
Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what was the date of building of the oldest primary school in the Urban District of Mangotsfield; and whether she has plans speedily to rebuild or modernise this school.

Mr. van Straubenzee

Downend Church of England Primary School, which was built in 1841. Work on a project to replace the infants department is due to start in 1972–73. The local education authority will propose the replacement of the junior department when it has acquired a site, but its conditions will be improved in the meanwhile as soon as the whole of the old school building becomes available for juniors only.
