HC Deb 08 March 1971 vol 813 c10W
74. Sir C. Bossom

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, in view of the shortage of glass bottles manufactured in this country for the wine trade, if he will consider suspending the import duties on foreign supplies of glass bottles for the British wine trade.

Mr. Anthony Grant

I am prepared to consider suspending this tariff if application is made by the trade with evidence to show that there is a substantial shortfall in domestic supplies of any type of bottle to meet total United Kingdom demand, and that the duty is a serious burden on the trade.
