Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he is aware that Ford's was considering installing a new engine plant in Great Britain which would have ensured its receiving a£12 million investment grant, and that due to the Government's change in policy on investment grants this firm has now decided not to go ahead with the building of this new plant; and whether he will take action to assist in this factory being established in Great Britain.

I am aware of Ford's recently announced decision against siting a new engine plant in Britain. They said this was because of unofficial strikes which prevented full use of their existing investment and led to failures to deliver on time. Ford's are well aware of the measures of assist
