HL Deb 04 March 1971 vol 315 cc1590-1WA
LORD FERRIER

asked Her Majesty's Government:

In view of the fact that advances in orthopaedic surgery and after-care have produced a situation whereby the insufficiency of theatre facilities in the Princess Margaret Rose Hospital in Edinburgh means that the maximum use cannot be made of existing beds (with a resultant unreasonably long waiting list for admissions), when the often deferred theatre additions are to be taken in hand there, and whether they will accelerate their completion.

THE MINISTER OF STATE, SCOTTISH OFFICE (BARONESS TWEEDSMUIR OF BELHELVIE)

The building of three additional operating theatres and a new boiler-house at the Princess Margaret Rose Hospital is expected to start later this year. Although the boiler-house is expected to be complete by 1973, trials to ensure its operational efficiency are necessary. As the additional boiler capacity must be available before the theatres can be brought into use, the new facilities will be ready in 1974.
