§ 74. Mr. George Cunninghamasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs in which ways the 399W Simonstown Agreement has been renegotiated since the departure of South Africa from the Commonwealth in 1961.
§ Mr. GodberSouth Africa's departure from the Commonwealth has not affected the Simonstown Agreements. Following discussions in 1967 between the Governments of the United Kingdom and South Africa it was agreed that the Commander-in-Chief South Atlantic and his staff should be withdrawn from South Africa, and the arrangement whereby a Royal Naval frigate was based at Simonstown, terminated.
