asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in view of the high level of cadmium discovered in the area, he will now follow up the report on Severnside by the Central Unit of Environmental Planning by authorising a closer scientific study of the environmental hazards involved in the recommendations of the study.

A study of the effects of possible contamination in the area by cadmium, lead and zinc is at present being carried out by a working party representing the Department of Health and Social Security, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Alkali Inspectorate, Warren Spring Laboratory, Bristol Corporation and the Imperial Smelting Corporation Limited.287W
