§ Mr. Robert Taylorasked the Secretary of State for the Environment which historic towns are situated on trunk roads ; and how soon he will be able to take steps to divert the roads.
§ Mr. Graham Page: The schedule published by the Council for British Archaeology lists 232 towns in England as having town centres which merit preservation. Of the towns in England 105 are on trunk roads. I am sending a list of these towns to my hon. Friend. Of the towns on trunk roads, 84 are either already relieved to a greater or lesser extent of trunk road through traffic, or will be so relieved by the early 1980s or earlier.
