HL Deb 27 January 1971 vol 314 cc1054-5WA
VISCOUNT THURSO

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in giving grants or loans for the construction of a new terminal at Scrabster for the projected roll-on, roll-off ferry to Orkney, it will be made a condition that the terminal will be sited in close proximity to Scrabster harbour in such a way and constructed in such a manlier that it can form an integral part of that harbour and be easily incorporated in any future scheme for the development of the harbour.

BARONESS TWEEDSMUIR OF BELHELVIE

My right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Scotland has made it clear to the Scrabster Harbour Trust that no decisions can be reached about the siting or design of the ferry terminal until more detailed information has been obtained about conditions in the harbour area, including depths of water, tidal effects and wave patterns. He has indicated his willingness to offer the Trust grant aid under the Congested Districts (Scotland) Act 1897 towards the cost of these preliminary investigations.
