§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will assess to what extent since June, 1970, the Government's policy of reducing prices, reducing Government expenditure, halting inflation and improving the economy has proved successful; and to what extent the Autumn Budget had an effect on these figures.
§ Mr. HigginsThe Government inherited a situation of accelerating inflation but are confident that their anti-inflationary policy will succeed. As to the measures announced in October, 1970, the benefits will be experienced over the lifetime of the present Administration.
