§ Mr. Marksasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proposals 270W she has received on the redesignation and replacement of the St. James' Church of England Junior and Infant School, Gorton, Manchester; and what action she will take.
271W
§ Mr. van StraubenzeeIn August, 1970 my right hon. Friend approved in principle a proposal by the managers to provide the first instalment of new buildings for this aided school. In November the managers indicated that they would not be able to meet their share of the cost, and that they intended to apply for controlled status. If the school becomes controlled, responsibility for the improvement or replacement of the buildings will be a matter in the first place for the Manchester local education authority.
