HC Deb 12 January 1971 vol 809 cc48-9W
Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many applications for licences to operate charter flights were made by British air-lines in each of the years from 1960 to the present, and how many were refused.

Mr. Anthony Grant

Following is the information:

abolition of the International Air Transport Association Resolution 045 governing affinity group air charter travel, in order to permit wholesale seat price discounts for travelling groups; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Anthony Grant

I think the hon. Member is referring to Resolution 045. We should like to see simpler and better rules introduced but, as the hon. Member knows, this is a matter which requires the concurrence of other Governments.

Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many staff in his Department are specifically responsible for the investigation of violation and infringement of International Air Transport Association rules governing affinity group charter flights.

Mr. Anthony Grant

The International Air Transport Association is responsible for enforcing its own rules. Fifteen of the Department's staff are concerned, among other duties, with enforcing the United Kingdom regulations in this field.
