§ Mrs. ThatcherThe preservation of paintings in a local authority art gallery or museum is the responsibility of the local authority concerned. My noble Friend, the Paymaster-General is, however, considering surveying the needs of provincial art galleries and museums which would include the problem of conservation of important works of art. As he stated in another place on 16th December, the Government will be prepared to look sympathetically at these needs.
