59. Earl of Dalkeithasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on Her Majesty's Government's policy concerning the preservation of buildings of historic or architectural merit in Scotland.
§ Mr. YoungerWe intend to encourage the conservation and improvement of historic buildings and areas to the maximum extent, using the new controls and powers provided in Part V of the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act, 1969. My right hon. Friend has given detailed policy guidance to local authorities in an official circular, a copy of which I am sending to my noble Friend.
