Dr. John A. Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) how many jobs are involved in the four industrial projects in West Cumberland which are being reconsidered, following the changes announced in financial incentives;

(2) what is the total number of jobs involved in the 12 proposed industrial projects in the Northern Region, which firms have indicated they are to review since the Government announced the changes in regional policy in October, 1970.

Since many of the projects are at a very early stage of planning, there is not sufficiently reliable information to estimate the number of jobs involved.

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many firms are currently pursuing inquiries, through his Department, in connection with the industrial projects in West Cumberland; and what was the corresponding figure at the same time in 1962, 1964, 1966, 1968 and 1970.

The Department is currently pursuing enquiries from six firms seeking locations in West Cumberland and from another six already there who have expansion plans. I regret that corresponding figures are not readily available for previous years.
