HC Deb 04 February 1971 vol 810 cc446-7W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will seek powers to enable officers of Customs and Excise to seize offensive and dangerous literature sought to be imported into the United Kingdom.

Mr. Higgins

H.M. Customs and Excise can seize importations of some types of offensive literature under the provisions of the Customs Consolidation Act, 1876, and the Children and Young Persons (Harmful Publications) Act, 1955. I have no proposal to make concerning extension of these powers.
