HC Deb 04 February 1971 vol 810 c460W
Mr. James Hamilton

asked the Lord Advocate when he expects the Court of Inquiry on the Ibrox disaster to make a report on safety precautions at football grounds; and if he will refer to it the correspondence on the matter sent to him by the hon. Member for Bothwell.

The Lord Advocate

A verdict will be returned at the conclusion of the proceedings at the Fatal Accident Inquiry which has, at my direction, been set up and which will commence on 15th February. The Inquiry will report on the causes of death and the circumstances of the accident. While it is competent to the jury at that Inquiry to recommend precautions for avoiding such an accident, the matter originally referred to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland by the hon. Member for Bothwell (Mr. James Hamilton) would appear to be more relevant for consideration in the further investigations into safety at sports grounds generally, announced by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department today.
