Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Employment why he will not seek powers to compel newspaper publishers to limit the fees payable to ex-Ministers who write their memoirs to amounts in line with the current trade union rate paid to journalists.

Mr. Bryan

I see no reason why ex-Ministers should not enjoy the same freedom as other writers to negotiate fees for the publication of their work in the Press.
