HC Deb 04 February 1971 vol 810 cc423-4W
70. Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she will take steps to retain in Great Britain the proof sheets of work by Alexander Pope containing handwritten notes by the poet, sold to a dealer on behalf of an American, the retention of which sheets has been advised by the Department of Trade and Industry's expert adviser, and the money for whose purchase and retention in Great Britain had been raised by the British Museum.

Mrs. Thatcher

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry has taken note of the views of the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art and has refused an export licence.
