asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will take steps to introduce ambulance helicopters for use on motorways.

Mr. Alison

No. Helicopters are unlikely to convey a casualty to hospital as soon as ordinary ambulance transport because of the time needed to bring a helicopter from its base and to make the special arrangements required for its take-off and landing.
