HC Deb 02 February 1971 vol 810 c350W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister for the Civil Service whether the £4,000 per annum claimable by former Prime Ministers is in any way restricted; and in what way.

Mr. David Howell

Section 3(2) of the Ministerial Salaries Consolidation Act, 1965, read in conjunction with the Resolution of this House of 18th December, 1964, provides that a pension to a former Prime Minister shall not be payable so long as he is in receipt of any salary payable out of the Consolidated Fund, the revenues of the Duchy of Lancaster or monies provided by Parliament other than a salary restricted to £1,250 as a Member of Parliament.
