HC Deb 02 February 1971 vol 810 c340W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when the figures of firework accidents are due to be published; and if he will elucidate the proportion of accidents caused by faulty manufacture of fireworks rather than their misuse.

Mr. Sharples

My right hon. Friend expects to publish the 1970 figures later this month. The figures do not attempt to distinguish between faulty manufacture and misuse because it would not be practicable to establish precisely how each individual accident occurred.

Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in view of the increasing public concern, he will recommend the appointment of a Royal Commission, or establish some form of public inquiry, into the casualties caused by fireworks.

Mr. Sharples

No.
