§ Mr. Juddasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will make a statement on the effectiveness of attendance and detention centres as a means of preventing and treating juvenile delinquency; and what consultations he 269W has had about this with those relevant professional associations concerned with the care and supervision of young people in trouble.
§ Mr. MaudlingObjective assessment, on the basis of statistical and other information, of the relative effectiveness of different forms of treatment presents considerable difficulties. I have not had occasion to discuss this question in relation to attendance and detention centres with the professional associations, but I shall be glad to consider any views which they may wish to express.
