Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many persons in the last year for which full information is available were assessed for means-tested assistance in regard to the costs of training allowances for young people and vocational training grants; and what proportion were those granted benefit in each case estimated to be of the total eligible.

Mr. Bryan

During the year ended 30th June, 1971, applications were accepted under the Department's Training Allowances Scheme from 351 young people taking up employment with training away from home. Figures are not readily available to show how many of

exchange; and how these compare with the same period 12 months ago.

In the area covered by the Camden Town employment exchange, the numbers registered as unemployed at July, 1971, were 1,578 (1,387 males and 191 females) and at July, 1970, 1,479 (1,287 males and 192 females).

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the latest total figures of registered unemployed male and female workers under the age of 18 years at Camden Town employment exchange; and how these figures compare with the same period last year, and the national statistics, respectively.
