HC Deb 04 August 1971 vol 822 cc306-7W
Dr. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the present total amount involved in schemes submitted for approval by coastal local authorities in connection with sewerage and sewage disposal schemes; and if he will give a breakdown of this amount.

Mr. Graham Page

A quick analysis shows that the estimated cost of schemes submitted by authorities with some boundary on the coast since 1st August, 1970, was of the order of £37 million. Schemes costing less than £100,000, or the product of a rate of 1p in the £ if that is higher, have not needed since 31st March last to be submitted for approval, and are not therefore included in that total. Not all these schemes are necessarily connected with discharges to the sea, because some of the authorities have deep hinterlands. If my hon. Friend would like figures for particular authorities I will write to him. I regret that I cannot give separate figures for sewerage and sewage disposal.
