asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have any further announcement to make, since June 24 last about the study of local family courts to be made by the Law Commission.

With the agreement of my right honourable friend the Home Secretary and myself, the Law Commission have set up a Working Party with the following terms of reference To consider, following the constitution of the Family Division of the High Court—

  1. (a) the structure, composition and jurisdiction of courts concerned with family matters below the level of the High Court, and
  2. (b) what provision should be made for appeals from and transfers to and from those courts."

Mr. Justice Scarman will be the chairman, and the members include Her Honour Judge Jean Graham Hall and representatives of the Home Office, my Office and the Law Commission.
