§ 28. Mr. Boyd-Carpenterasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will now state in detail his proposals for compensating persons with low incomes, other than those in receipt of National Insurance and supplementary benefits, for any effect on retail prices resulting from British entry into the European Economic Community.
§ Sir K. JosephRetirement pensioners and those dependent on other social benefits will be protected from price increases. It was these people I was referring to in my speech on 14th June. As the White Paper indicated, the effect on prices of entry into the European Economic Community is likely to be small.
