HC Deb 28 April 1971 vol 816 c115W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment why he did not announce the appointment of Lord Aldington as Chairman of the Port of London Authority to the House of Commons; what part-time salary this part-time appointment will enjoy; how this compares as to time worked with the full-time salary paid to Lord Simon; whether he will give details of Lord Aldington's qualifications and knowledge of ports and docks; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Peyton

The procedure followed accorded with precedent. The Chairman's salary is a matter for the Authority and not for me. Lord Aldington's qualifications for this important post are undoubted.
