§ Mrs. ThatcherA total of £50.4 million was made available to the Council for the financial year 1970–71 of which £16.2 million was spent on the Council's own research establishments. Expenditure on nuclear physics and radioastronomy was £21 million and £1 million respectively; the expenditure on nuclear physics included £12.4 million at Council establishments and £6.9 million for the U.K. contribution to C.E.R.N.
