§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether, as the Japanese have an economy with a growth rate of 13 per cent., being more than double that of the European Economic Community, he will initiate discussions with the Government of Japan for a Common Market agreement with that country.
§ Mr. RipponNo. The Community has begun discussions with the Government of Japan. If the negotiations are successful and we join the European Economic Community we shall be able to play our part in formulating the relationship between Japan and the enlarged Community.
