§ Mr. Clinton Davisasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is aware 45W of the large number of elderly people in the London Borough of Hackney who live in sections of houses where, because of inadequate heating, the temperature in their living accommodation is below reasonable limits; and what steps he is taking to deal with the situation.

JosephThe Government keeps under constant review the genuine needs and requirements of elderly people, including their need for adequate heating, and I have announced measures which will help in appropriate cases. If the hon. Member has details of any cases of particular difficulty in Hackney, I hope he will bring them to the notice of the local authority or other appropriate local agencies so that they can consider what action might be taken.
