HC Deb 27 October 1970 vol 805 c52W
Mr. S. C. Silkin

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the periods of sentence served before their release by life sentence prisoners recommended for release by the Parole Board since 15th May, 1968, and the periods served before their release by life sentence prisoners released during a corresponding period of time immediately before 15th May, 1968.

Mr. Carlisle

Life sentence prisoners are normally given 12 months' notice of release, so that most of the releases during the first year after 15th May, 1968 were in pursuance of decisions taken before the parole scheme came into operation. The following tables give figures for the period 1st May, 1969 to 30th September, 1970, and for a comparable period before the parole scheme took effect.
