Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what recent action he has taken or intends taking to encourage the increase in industrial production to offset growing unemployment, in view of the fact that the November figures were the highest for 30 years.

As my right hon. Friend told the House on 4th November, there are signs of rising activity in the economy generally, and it is expected that over the next six months the upward trend in output will be broadly in line with the estimated rate of growth in the economy's productive capacity.
