§ Dr. Summerskillasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what action he proposes to take in the light of the advice to him of the Farm Animals Welfare Advisory Committee, in its Report to him of September, 1970, that on scientific grounds there is no justification for discouraging the tethering of cattle and pigs, but that on ethical grounds the Codes of Practice should be amended so as to discourage tethering for other than short periods.
§ Mr. Anthony StodartIn view of the report by the State Veterinary Service my right hon. Friend proposes to amend the relevant paragraph of the Cattle Code to recommend the use of tethers and ties of a suitable design which does not cause injury to cattle.
