HC Deb 24 November 1970 vol 807 c106W
Mr. Golding

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether in cases within his responsibility he will prevent the destruction of woods containing oak and beech such as occurred at Folly Wood, Oakley, Staffordshire.

Mr. Michael Heseltine

The Forestry Commission has regard to amenity in considering applications for felling licences and consult the local planning authority where there is a significant amenity interest. In the particular case which the hon. Member appears to have in mind, I understand that the local planning authority raised no objection to the proposed fellings. In this kind of case I think it is right for the decision to be taken locally.
