§ Mr. DeanThe number of persons in England and Wales who were over 80 years of age on 5th July, 1970 is approximately 1,085,000. About 9 per cent. of this number will qualify for pensions under Section 1 of the National Insurance (Old persons' and widows' pensions and attendance allowance) Act, 1970.
