Mr. Prentice

asked the Minister for Overseas Development how many letters, telegrams and other communications have been received by the Government objecting to the proposal to merge the Ministry of Overseas Development with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office; and how many have been received in support of the proposal.

Since the middle of July the Government have received 890 letters and 56 telegrams objecting to the proposal to merge the Ministry of Overseas Development with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Two letters have been received in support of the merger.
