HC Deb 18 November 1970 vol 806 c409W
62. Mr. Trew

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will ensure that the investigation into the proposed Thames Flood Barrier at Silver-town Reach, Woolwich will include detailed studies on the possible effects of the barrier on flooding in areas downstream of the site.

Mr. Peter Walker

Detailed studies have been made of the effects of the closure of a barrier at different stages of the tide on river levels at all places downstream. The information gained is being used by the Essex and Kent River Authorities and the Greater London Council in consultation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in considering the design standard of any works necessary in their areas, either as a consequence of, or associated with, the operation of a Thames flood barrier.
