asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give details of the number of fatal and serious accidents in 1968 and 1969 which involved vehicles crossing the central reservations on motorways.

Following are the figures for the 55 miles of the London-Birmingham section of the M1 without a central barrier; information for the rest of the motorway system is not available.

1969 6 24

These accidents represents one third of all fatal accidents and a quarter of all serious accidents on this section of motorway.
