HC Deb 18 November 1970 vol 806 c443W
Mr. Tom Boardman

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science when effect is to be given to the recommendation of the Royal Commission on Medical Education that a medical school should be established at Leicester.

Mrs. Thatcher

On the advice of the University Grants Committee, and in consultation with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Social Services, I have agreed that a medical school should be established at Leicester. This will enable the school to contribute, as recommended by the Royal Commission on Medical Education, to the target of 3,700 pre-clinical entry places by 1975 as well as providing additional places after 1975.
