HC Deb 16 November 1970 vol 806 cc314-5W
Mr. Alec Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list as much information as is practicable concerning the land reclamation schemes before his Department, the estimated cost of each scheme, and the areas involved.

Mr. Peter Thomas

The Derelict Land Unit in the Welsh Office assists and advises local authorities in the formulation of schemes of reclamation, and the work in hand at any time ranges from preliminary consideration in broad outline, requiring much further detailed investigation, to schemes nearing the point of formulation in detail for grant approval and tendering. The provision of a list giving information over this wide spectrum of activity would involve a considerable amount of work in spot analysis of an ever changing picture which I do not think would be justifiable. In broad terms, rather more than a hundred possible schemes involving a total of approximately 3,000 acres are at present at varying stages of consideration.
