HC Deb 13 November 1970 vol 806 cc266-7W
Mr. Loveridge

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when he will be in a position to make a statement on the effects of the proposed Thames barrage in relation to water levels and flooding of the Thames, with particular reference to Rainham and the valley of the Ingrebourne River.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

Detailed studies have been made of the effects of the closure of a barrier at different stages of the tide on river levels at all places downstream. The information gained is being used by the Essex and Kent River Authorities and the Greater London Council in consultation with my Department in considering the design standard of any works necessary in their areas, either as a consequence of, or associated with, the operation of a Thames flood barrier.
