The income tax and surtax payable for 1970–71 (including surtax—where applicable—at the current (1969–70) rates) by a holder of an office, assuming him to be a married man with no other income or allowances on salaries as in column (2) is shown in column (4) and the reduction in income tax following the proposed reduction of 6d. in the rate is shown in column (5). The figures in columns (4) and (5) are calculated on the assumption that parliamentary expenses absorb the whole of the allowance in column (3). The figures in columns (4) and (5) are based on assumptions set out above and do not necessarily represent the position of the particular holders of the offices.
