HC Deb 12 November 1970 vol 806 cc244-5W
Dame Joan Vickers

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs to what extent assistance is given by his Department to the Commonwealth Secretariat in disseminating the document on youth and development in Africa, a copy of which is in his possession, to universities, colleges and schools in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Wood

The Commonwealth Secretariat has not asked for such assistance.

Dame Joan Vickers

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs to what extent teachers who are recruited under his Department's auspicies for teaching overseas are required to study the document "Youth and Development in Africa", a copy of which is in his possession, and reports of conferences on rural education in developing countries.

Mr. Wood

I recognise the value of these reports, but my Department has to select material in consultation with the Government on whose behalf the teachers are recruited.

I cannot commit myself to the prescription of any individual document.
