HC Deb 11 November 1970 vol 806 cc211-2W
Mr. Ashley

asked the Secetary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement about the treatment of cancer in British hospitals.

Sir K. Joseph

All recognised methods of treatment of cancer are available in National Health Service hospitals.

Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what guidance he proposes to give to British cancer sufferers who are inquiring about the medical evidence concerning cures provided by the Ringberg Clinic, Bavaria.

Sir K. Joseph

The facts about the methods used and results obtained in the Ringberg Clinic have not yet been published in a form which would enable guidance to be given. Publication is said to be imminent and enquiries are being made from the West German Federal Health Department.

Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps are being taken to make available to all cancer sufferers in Great Britain treatment on the lines provided at the Ringberg Clinic, Bavaria.

Sir K. Joseph

The treatment in the Ringberg Clinic uses conventional as well as unorthodox methods, of which the former are available in National Health Service hospitals to all cancer patients. It will be open to the medical profession to study the information, when published, on all aspects of this treatment and to adopt those methods that are supported by medical evidence.
