HC Deb 09 November 1970 vol 806 c24W
Mr. George Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales the total number of civil servants employed in the Welsh Office on 20th June, 1970; the number employed on 1st November, 1970; and whether any reduction in the number employed is now being planned.

Mr. Peter Thomas

On 1st July, 1970, the number of non-industrial staff employed in the Welsh Office was 775 and on 1st November, 1970, it was 799.

There will inevitably be some immediate increase in Welsh Office numbers in order to cope with the added functions announced in the recent White Paper Cmnd. 4506, but I am in process of reviewing overall figures in relation to the work which has to be done.

Mr. George Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many civil servants were employed in 47, Parliament Street, Whitehall, on 20th June, 1970; and what was the number employed there on 1st November, 1970.

Mr. Peter Thomas

On 1st July, 1970, the number of civil servants employed by the Welsh Office in 47, Parliament Street was 33 and on 1st November, 1970, 31.
