§ Mr. Barry Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Wales what is his policy towards the establishment of a Welsh agricultural college; if he will consider giving financial aid to such a project on the basis that Welsh authorities decided to implement such a proposal; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. van StraubenzeeI have been asked to reply. I would refer to the reply given to the hon. Member for Cardigan (Mr. Elystan Morgan) on 9th July, 1970. Building work on the college is proceeding. Courses are expected to start in the autumn of 1971, and students are already being enrolled. This project is sponsored by the Welsh Joint Education Committee, and financial responsibility, for both the erection and maintenance of the College, is being shared amongst those Welsh local education authorities who have agreed to support it. They will receive Exchequer assistance through Rate Support Grant in the usual way.—[Vol. 803, c. 82.]
