§ Mr. John Morris
asked the Minister of State for Defence what plans are proposed for H.M.S. "Lion" and H.M.S. "Eagle" after 1972.

§ Mr. Kirk
As stated in the Supplementary Statement on Defence Policy, we have decided not to proceed with plans to convert H.M.S. "Lion" to the helicopter carrying rôle; H.M.S. "Eagle" will be withdrawn from service, as planned by the previous Government, in 1972. No decision has yet been taken about the final disposal of either ship.
