HC Deb 04 November 1970 vol 805 cc406-7W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give detailed consideration to the appropriate financial and administrative arrangements which will arise from the adoption of the principle that continuing income should be received by rural areas in which reservoirs are located in addition to the revenue they receive in the form of rate income; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Thomas

This is one of a number of recommendations made by the Welsh Council in its report "Water in Wales" which I will be considering with the Report of the Central Advisory Water Committee.

Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he is aware that the present arrangements for the compensation for land acquired for reservoirs cause concern; if he will consider taking steps to provide more generous compensation, such as that provided by Parliament in local Acts; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Thomas

This is the subject of one of the recommendations made by the Welsh Council in its report "Water in Wales", which is now receiving consideration. Any changes on the lines proposed would involve legislation.
