HC Deb 03 November 1970 vol 805 c333W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will publish as detailed a list as is available of the State-owned accommodation occupied as private residences; who occupies each; what the accommodation consists

Residence Occupant Approximate Annual Cost
10 Downing Street Prime Minister £2,400
11 Downing Street Chancellor of the Exchequer £2,650
1 Carlton Gardens Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs £2,350
Admiralty House Secretary of State for the Home Department £2,000
Admiralty House Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster £1,450

The extent of accommodation in each residence varies, but comprises at least a drawing room, study, dining room, bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom.

The figures shown for approximate annual cost cover normal annual maintenance of buildings, furnishings and furniture, repairs, heating, electricity, gas and water costs, and contributions in lieu of rates. It is not possible to assess a realistic rental for this type of property.

As has been the position in previous Administrations, no contributions are recovered from Ministers in respect of official residential accommodation.
